Occam's Razor. When faced with competing hypotheses, select the one that makes the fewest assumptions. Do not multiply necessities without good reason. In layman's terms: the simplest solution is the correct one. The problem here is that people are over thinking it because the answer is right in front of you. The number does not matter as long as it is said in a complete sentence with the word stars. The objects are meant to distract you from seeing the pattern. In other words the answer is there are X stars where X is any number. Twilight is wrong because she is only saying numbers and not full sentences unlike RD and Pinkie. So the answer to Pinkie's question is there are 42 stars tonight.
I think I just lost some brain cells after this.
none because is cloudy tonight
XD
and snowing
;-;
There are infinite amount of stars it keeps going on forever
there is only one star
Pinkie is unique! Videos like this can give us more that 4 minutes of laughters.
There are sixteen million seven hundred and seventy seven thousand two hundred and sixteen stars in the night sky.
Based on the fact that pinky said " do you want to play a mind game" I think that the number doesn't mater, but have to be said in a sertain way. So the answer must be there are 42 stars in the night sky.
There are 6 stars.
Would have never figured that out on my own, without reading
through the comments.
Hmm, i think there are 1312378*(13123132)12x(-13271387)+( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)-13213890182309*18239083172893/31277319+(smile)=correct answer
There are 13 stars.
There are 68! stars out tonight.
I know this one i know this one! ...Ummm..... A lot?
7 just for the lolz
18 if you don't include her hair and head blocking the way
5 when she asks for us to look at dashie's mane
10 when she puts dashie down and asks the question
70 at the "there is a correct answer"
the 3.14 stars is from a star near the top being slightly off screen and one behind her mane
the orion scope didn't have any stars in the background
The ones i didn't understand was
420 stars (because i didn't want to bother counting)
80 because i didn't know which frame of reference to use
and 314909.572059 as again i didn't want to count/ didn't know which frame of reference.
If i went with the assumption you counted certain colored stars as bonus points they seem a tad more possible but quite frankly I cant figure them out.
Darude Sandstorm
Infinite.
This is so cool! And funny kinda x3
Amazing animation as always!
Answer: you can't know. All of your information is old. We can tell you with certainty how many stars there were eight minutes ago (0, it's NIGHT), how many there were 10 years ago (between 4 and 8 depending upon latitude, longitude and date), etc. etc.
Light speed being non-infinite is a bitch, ain't it? And just what exactly DOES "simultaneous" mean when information propagates at a finite rate?
There are 3 stars out tonight. Pinkie, Twilight, and RD.
There are any number of stars out there tonight
Twenty one stars.
Oh silly Pinkie you know stars are not real
It's good to see you back alive again, wondered when you might do something after college xD Hope to see more especially that Sims episode you mentioned that I'm looking forward too :D
Great work! It wouldn't be 10 stars by any chance, would it btw?
"Logic" games are often deceptively simple, using misdirection to disguise the answer. Don't overthink it. On that note, I believe there are 42 stars out tonight. :3
I love games like this. Reminds me of playing Green Glass Door when we used to go camping.
More episodes please! :D
Night is colder than outside
(Best logic)
10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
I like big Numbers.
I don't see the logic in it, at first I thought I did, but I was wrong.
Are there 623426 stars out tonight?
Celestrot lol
What's with the strange aspect ratio?
How many stars? Why does it even matter, if you can see them but in reality they are so far away that they have actually been long gone for billions of years? If a star is a million light years away from the earth and just went super nova it would take a million years for that image to actually reach the earth and enter your vision. Stars, life in other solar systems? none of it matters cause if we actually found anything out there it would already be gone before we could even get close enough to study it. So your answer pinky pie? 0, because there is a possibility that there could actually be nothing there.
Over 9000!!!!
186
There are no stars in the sky. Stars are in space not the sky.
Twilight, you're a princess now. Just send Pinkie into prison until she gives you the answer. Here's how the royalty solve their problems.
I'm with Twilight, I have NO clue about how Pinkie came to these answers? or how Dashie of all ponies was able to figure it out. Whats the trick?
There is no such thing as the night. All stars are suns, and suns only have days. Night is when you cannot see a sun, but since all stars are suns, and you can always see suns no matter which way you look in space, it can never be night. In fact, if all the light from all the stars in space were to reach us at the same time (meaning that there's the same travel time regardless of distance) and none of it were affected by the Doppler effect, the sky would be perpetually sun-yellow.
My answer to the riddle is: "There are 99! stars in the sky tonight." That reads ninety-nine-factorial.
10?
duh it's not really a puzzle, I can do the same and say random numbers too
there are yes stars out tonight
As for my thoughts: if I had to guess, it requires you to think about the problem from a different perspective. The issue is that I don't know which perspective it is. But part of me gets the feeling that the object chosen is completely irrelevant to the problem.
How many stars are there tonight?
All of them.
There are 1337 stars.
Will you be posting a solution video in the future?
There's 6 colours on Dashie's mane ... so 6?
number of stars is: pinkie's a troll.
I dunno why, but I'm pretty sure it's a number which grows up every day. xD
None, because light pollution killed them all.
Unless you're not near a city with a ton of bright lights. If not, then all of them.
Although, what about the people that are in the outskirts of a city... Half of them?
Screw it, we'll just go with as many are in the sky currently.
is what ever pinkie pie says the number is.
THERE ARE... FOUR LIGHTS!!!
Just caught something. Counted the number of stars on screen when Twilight comes up with 17. There are that many visible in the frame. Nice touch.
10
Oh please, the answer is obviously 42. It is after all the answer to the whole universe, life, and everything.
Iam going to say 91
There are 5.
Oh wait
lens = 420
lantern = 80
flower = 70 + 95 + PI
ground = 7 x 10^22
scope = 0
420 + 80 + 70 + 95 + PI + 7 x 10^22 = lens looking into lantern seeing a flower on the ground with a scope
but scope = 0
42 + 0 = 420
420 = 80 + 70 + 95
80 = 3 x 2
so 420 = 3 + 3
3 = Half life 3 confirmed but wait
3 alos = triangle
triangle = LOOMINATY
inception music
HALF LIFE 3 AND LOOMINATY CONFIRMED !
I can't figure this out! What is it?
Is this one of those mind games that relies completely on the misuse of language rather than any real test of intelligence?
Uhhh... Can I have a hint?
345678 or 33 or 231 or 20160 or 2880 or
4,714285714285714

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the way Pinkie is wording the question, because of the weird ways that she is asking each one. It MIGHT have to do with the object, but possibly the number of letters, which letters, or in what order they are in. Due to the large range of answer types ("absolutely none", "pi", "something times 10 to the nth power", "420"), I'm going to assume it's a combination of the two... Could we get ONE more example?
I say 6 stars , may not be correct but anyway it was fun :D
first puzzle: look at the sky. there are 52 stars. 10 shining super bright, 42 normal. 10*42=420
second puzzle: 3 flies, 5 lanturn parts (8). 10 stars. 10*8=80.
third puzzle: 3 full stars (1 behind pinkies head) plus one fractionalized at the top, assumed to 3.14...
dashies puzzle: no clue, idk what the question was
4th puzzle: there are no stars to multiply. so its 0
final puzzle: figure it out with the pattern i showed you. the answer is 108.
Alright, I'm gonna give it a try.
There are 100500 stars in the night sky. <- The whole sentence is my answer
or 4, depending how far away you are while looking
If I'm right on how this puzzle works, if you look @ rainbows mane there is 3 stars in the sky....right?
This... this right here...
THIS- would make for a fanTASTIC MLP episode!
To heck with the children having their brains melt from over thinking. THIS would be pure gold!
There are 78 stars out tonight!
"There are 36 stars." The entire statement in quotes is my answer.
I think it's a "Petal around the rose" puzzle. If so, the answer is in the title.
In the case of a "Petal around the rose", people roll dices. The center dot on a dice represents the rose, points around that dot represent the petals. The question is, "how many petals are there".
If it's really the same game going on here, then the object should "represent" the sky. Once you know the property that represents the stars, you should be able to tell how many "stars" there are for any given object.
May be that, maybe not. Dunno', good luck to those who want to try the math.
Heh, 420 blaze it stars, i liked that one
god knows how much i hate that riddle
Well... The answer is the same amount as the times anyone mentions "IWTCIRD". If she TRULY broke the 4. wall, she would know what "that" meant and she was refering that.
There are 13 stars in the sky tonight
I am in pain
There are not stars, because youtube removed the ratings system and instead implemented like/dislike buttons.
It's a joke from Big Bang theory. Unless they took the idea from somewhere else too :)
I ve got an IQ of 139 and i passed the A Class with 1,2 .... BUT THIS IS STUPID!!! I thought about it 2 hours and only get the answer 18. There is no other explination then that the stars at the background r the answer. Or it is 42 ..... The answer for everything . -.-
I really wanna know how this works...
The answere is friendship ! idiots hahah i won :P
Wow. This is seriously the best animation on a fan vid. Pretty much show quality. Love all the angles and fast paced characters.
It's 42.
There's got to be a random order to this, with no logic involved. Either that or it's a pattern based on the number of letters in the object's name or something like that.
Either way great animation and curse you Pinkie Pie because now I'm going to me thinking about this all day now. (Psst! Help me out here, Google!)
I'll just try 7
I have no idea what the buck is going on. O.o(\
3
I think I played this game before. The answer is whatever number you want, as long you say "There are." So, my answer is, there are 14 stars.
I think it's... 10 stars
There are 0.2281991 x 1.4 million of stars out tonight?
Yay, Twi breaks fourth wall!
Okay... I'm making a wild guess here, but... six?
I cracked. I have to watch it. Third time. Or more. This have to make sence!
I just hope it isn't the deep language thing, couse I am not that good at English.
10,5?
She is just a cartoon pony, but
she drive me crazy!
To present riddle to a friend, who is clearly a "I have to know it, I have to solve it!"-type of pony, and not helping this friend to understand that its a nonsense-/trick-question is not what a friend does. Its cruel and mean.
And "Its just Pinkie! Pinkie doesnt make sense." isnt making this anymore friendly or adorable.
Poor Twilight ...
Are you going to ever say how it works?
How I feel every single Test ever!
E = mc2
also, must... resist.. making a 420 blaze it joke...
It has to be simple, and the actual number given is arbitrary. I noticed the following patterns:
Here are the wrong answers:
"Four hundred and twenty?"
"Seventeen?"
"Ninety-five?"
"Eight!"
"Sixty-nine?"
"Two point seventy one times ten to the power of five!"
Here are the right answers:
"There are four hundred and twenty stars."
"There are eighty stars, tonight."
"There are three point one four one five nine two six five stars."
"What if I say there are one hundred and seventeen times ten to the power of three point forty-three stars?"
"I thought there were absolutely no stars tonight."
Patterns:
1. All right answers are complete sentences.
2. All right answers have the word "stars" in the sentence.
3. All wrong answers are just a number.
So, taking a look at Dashie's mane, how many stars are there tonight?
My answer:
There are billions and billions of stars.
So, @***** , am I right?
There are 4 stars tonight.
I am going to say... that there are 4,268,126,826,970.2 stars out tonight.
310, cuss the rainbow has a wavelength of 390 to 700 nm, aka the visible spectrum?
@_@ I hope the logic can be explained cause my head is all sorts of fried....
1500
Someone come up with a formula. Now. I can trick my maths teacher with this but I need to know the formula!!!
There is only one true star.
It's called "Crystal"
In the sky that we can see there are about 1000 stars. There are billions more beyond that (if not far more than that).
3:50
Why did i laugh so hard at ''my little humans''
I think its 1. Since I think the puzzle is just asking at what view point there are visible stars. So with rainbow Dash's mane, main... Idk. Anyways rainbow Dash's mane is a rainbow, rainbows are only visible during the day, so how many stars are visible during the day? 1, the sun.
There are ∞ stars
tfw its morning when I watch this
There are eight stars tonight. maybe...
There is BITEN COOKIE stars on the night sky!
the light you see in the sky arent even stars, they are galaxies
100.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.020 stars
EpiC Over 9000! galaxies.

Sir, you can't have a logic game without first having logic.
If this is a riddle, it seems a little arbitrary to be answered.
Great,,,, BUT PLEASE TELL ME THE ANSWER!
You can't call it a logic game if there is no real answer.
wow this was so good.... cool job /)
I'll give it a try. Here is what Pinkie and Dashie say are the answers:
Eye Piece - There are 420 stars
Lantern - There are 80 stars tonight
Flower - There are 3.14159 stars
Ground - What if I said there are 117 times 10 to the power of 3.43 stars
Scope Leg - I thought there were absolutely no stars tonight
Dashie's Mane - ?
When Twilight Sparkle gives her answers, she only says the number. I think all that matters is that your sentence has "There are ... stars" and the number is irrelevant :)
14 as that is how many stars are on screen.
420 blaze it
There are precisely 162 stars tonight.
125
DAMN! those games! XD being a boy scout I've seen all kind of games like this and... I was never able to solve them alone XD But if anibody wants a hint; the answer is probably not to be looked for only in the object (like Twilight was doing) but probaly also in how Pinkie put the sentence... have fun!
358/2 stars?
All of the stars.
Wait... there's gotta be some catch. Looking at an object for a certain amount of time could affect your vision, making things blurry or clearer depending on what you look at and for how long. Given Pinkie only gives a few seconds for each, the number could vary. However, it could be a trick question in that the number in question actually refers to how many stars are visible in the entire animation if the night sky used is the same throughout the entire short.
...Honestly I don't think I can figure it out, but I hope some pony can with my little ideas/hints.
6?
Lol, I dunno. My guess is they're doing a Howard Wolowitz and they're just saying all of Twilight's answers are wrong.
I don't Know how many stars there'is, but I'm sure about one think. Discord will love this video !
the answer is a lot you can interpret it any way you want
Alot.
There are no stars in the sky because they're all in space
0. it's too dark to see any
42
there are 56 stars tonight.
gotcha
Well, first thing to do is list out the questions and their answers:
Q1: Twilight! Look closely at this eyepiece. When looking into this object, you can deduce the number of stars in the night sky! How many?
A1: Silly Twilight, there are 420 stars!
Q2: This lantern! Look into it. Now by thinking about it, how many stars are there in the night sky?
A2: There are 80 stars tonight.
Q3: This flower! So, how many stars are there tonight?
A3: There are (pi) stars!
Q4: Now look at the ground. So, how many stars are there in the night sky?
A4: What if I say there are 117*10^3.43 stars?
Q5: So by staring at the leg of this Orion Scope...so how many stars are the--
A5: There are absolutely no stars tonight.
Well, the first thing I notice is that Pinkie didn't get to finish asking the 5th one, so it's unlikely that the answer depends on the specific wording of the question.
It can't be based on something like "if such-and-such conditions, answer is greater than x" because that would require prior information.
The answer can't depend on any sort of pattern recognition, since Dash didn't hear any of the previous questions and still answered correctly.
The answer to 4 bugs me. That number is entirely too arbitrary to have anything to do with the ground. Perhaps it's something specific about the number, like what letter it starts with? So, e & f, l & e, f & t, g & o, l & z. Hmm. I don't see any connection...
Something regarding the number of letters in the object would be a bit unfair for a spoken riddle.
Eyepiece, 420 (four-hundred & twenty).
Lantern, 80 (eighty).
Flower, pi.
Ground, 117*10^3.43 (one-hundred & seventeen times ten to the power of three point fourty-three).
Leg of Orion Scope, 0 (zero).
Again, answer 4. It's too complex to have depended on the word form of the number, for a riddle like this.
"Looks like she lost it."
"Good!"
Hmm. So it's 'good' that Twilight's having a mental breakdown? You'd think they'd be a bit more worried after Smarty Pants...
Anyway. Good that she's...what, exactly? Not thinking as much? Is this one of those riddles that's "supposed" to be "really obvious" if you "don't think about it"?
Ok. I'm reasonably confident that the answer doesn't have anything to do with the actual number. Does it depend on HOW you answer then?
Erg.
Let's look at the wrong answers:
1: Pinkie, there's no way anypony could count the number of stars.
2: 420?
3: 17? 95??
There weren't any for 4.
5: 8! 69? 2.71*10^5?!
I don't see anything...
Hrm. Let's see that last one:
"Now, take a look at Dashie's mane. So, how many stars are there tonight? Hmm?"
Wait a minute...why is "Correct Answer" in quotes? There's more than one, isn't there?
Grrrrrrrrr. I'll think about this, oh yes I will...
it's over 9000!
There are 28E2A stars tonight.
I'll stick with "not over thinking too much".
A rainbow has 7 colours. And rainbows comes from a white light that gets refracted. And certain colours get reflected back since the object in question can't absorb the light. And the main light source that light up Equestria at night is from the Moon that reflects the Sun. In this case, Celestia's sun is considered a star.
So my answer is 1.
"When you look at legs of the Orion scope"
It's because looking at the leg of the scope won't tell you anything about the stars unless you look through the scope itself. It's called Logic.
... As for the rest of Pinkie's question, I don't really have a clue.
Six
Holy fucking hell, I can't logic this. My brain is an illogical mess right now.
If we can associate the stars with each of the main characters on this video, I would say there are 3.
1:18 420 Blaze it?
Well, me and a friend talked and pondered over it, and we think the answer is as follows:
There are 73 stars.
genial el video
te lo agradesco mucho
tienes mucho talento
espero con ansias ver mas
:3
21
Moral of the story, don't play logic games with Pinkiepie, logic doesn't agree with her.
Zero, because there are no buses in Ponyville!
......i don't get it :/
but cool video ^-^
the amount of people completely misunderstanding the logic game and just guessing the number of actual stars in the sky is a little disconcerting to me
IMPOSSIBRU!
There are 235 stars.
Let me try it.
Let's start with the galaxies. There are, astronomers estimate, around 170 billion galaxies in the observable universe, stretching out over a radius of some 45.7 billion* light-years. Those galaxies vary in terms of the number of stars they contain, Universe Today notes: Some spiral galaxies have more than a trillion stars. Some giant elliptical galaxies have 100 trillion stars. There are also tiny dwarf galaxies—tiny being, obviously, a relative term here—that have a significantly fewer number of stars.
The Milky Way—our little corner of the observable universe—has, for its part, some 400 billion stars.
So! If we multiply the (estimated) average number of stars in each galaxy by the number of galaxies in the observable universe—and carry the billion, etc.—we get a rough estimate of ALL THE STARS we're capable of observing. There are roughly a septillion stars in the observable universe. That's 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars. Which is, for lack of a more fitting description ... a lot of stars.
So, then: Back to you, you tiny little pony, standing on the surface of your tiny little planet in your tiny little corner of the universe. How many of those septillion stars are actually visible to you? An extremely, yep, tiny little percentage. There are only about 5,000 stars visible to the naked, average, human eye, MinutePhysics points out. And, because the Earth itself gets in the way, you can only see about a half of those from where you stand.
Which means that, when you gaze into the heavens, full of wonderment and awe, you see around 2,500 stars scattering the sky. If you're lucky, that is, and the stars align.
Oh, and the video was also good. :P
42 it the meaning of life and the answer to everything
Welp, this video is going to bug me forever XD I WOULD say it's the whole "answer with confidence" thing, or that there is no answer cause Pinkie doesn't conform to the laws of logic, if it weren't for the fact that there is an actual "correct answer" :P Unless "Correct answer" is in quotations for a reason XP shot
I was never very good at these kinds of games. ^^'
Regardless, I LOVED the video, and it had me both laughing and puzzled, awesome job :'D
I was wandering if for the next one could be gta5 problubly not though
I'm gonna say 20
Don't let her break you, Twilight! Remember, there are four lights!
I don't have much more than a guess.
The only idea I have is, that it has something to do with the reflection of colorful light from the object we are looking at to the pony eye
(leg of the [black] celarian scope -> 0) Sadly this one is pretty much the only object that makes sense ...
Anyway, rainbows mane has the full spectrum, so that would be ... all the stars?
Six, probably. It depends on the direction of the wind.
There are 6 Stars Tonight
Zero, because it's just star light that is we are just now seeing from a dead star.
Im going to say 5 stars because thats how many are viewable right when pinkie asks you to look at dashies mane. I bet it really is as simple as that. am I right? :D
7
eye piece -> 420
lantern -> 80
flower -> 3.14159 (pie)
ground -> 117 times 10 to the power of 3.43
leg of the celarian scope -> 0
dashie's mane -> ?
>_0 ........ brain explodes
6 stars.
Is this one of those riddles where the answer you give doesn't matter so much as the confidence you say it with?
We need THE NEW MATH to solve this problem with number of stars :)
Dash is 20% cooler... Has 6 colors in her mane... 6x0.20=1.5... Times the power of gummy... I give up
Is it related to the RGB color model? Then the black of the leg would result in zero stars...?
300 billion stars that's my real answer
420 stars? Yes pinkie, Blaze it.
69 stars? Twilight, you've been spending too much time in Celestia's secret room.
972,307,598,570
Number.
Cute
1 star 😁
A billion billion trillion. All I needed to do is to look at Morgan Freeman's freckles to find this answer out.
20 stars?
3.162277660168379 i think
Well this was dumb.
hm, so let me think
rainbowdash's main has 6 colors, separed on 2 groups: 6/2=3
the illuminati triangle has 3 vertices and 1 eye. 1/3 = 0,333333
if you create a 3d vector with 0.3333 in the x axis, 3 in the y axis, and 6 in the z axis, and normalize the final vector, we have (0.0496292, 0.446663, 0.893325)
if we multiply the axis we get 0,01980280637851467.
so clearly, the result then is just multiply it by the number of Muhammad and the answer is -13.
On an (somewhat) unrelated note, Can't wait for The Sims/Ponies Episode 3! :D
...22 stars?
Is the one of the things where if i answer in confidence it is correct but if I am unsure then I am wrong? So I can say any number as long as I act like I know that that is the right answer.
I bet it doesn't matter what obgect Pinkie names in the beginning. It depends only on how she's asquing. And it somehow connected to the geometry, cose all ansers, in my opinion, are in degrees. (Pi, 420, 80...)
Looks like no one's solved it?
6 stars
None. Most stars are probably millions of light years away, maybe even billions. If that's the case, the light just might be a remnant of a dead star. (Of course this is not the right answer in any bloody way XD)
I can't find this logical, yet. I WILL EVEN IF IT TAKES YEARS.
my little humans..........god damn-it
20 or this is one of those "I just made that number up" puzzles that you can't win
149
I no good at these kind of games. Umm.... 21?
I cheated :c
I'll take the cookie anyway though...
301
Simply because Youtube stuck your views at 301 when you deserve to have billions !
Oh gawd, I NEED THE ANSWER, this is going to bug me for ages now
Pinkie and astronomy do not mix!
What a mind breaker x_x
six?
wears a groove into the carpet trying to figure this one out

I'm table flipping over here! No damn idea...
Over 9000 stars
well 0. the sun is the star and the sun is down at night so no stars. but all the stars in the sky are suns so 0. but if all the suns are stars and ther is no stars at night then 0.
