Btw while I don't believe that religion is a private matter, and do think the various Churches has considerable influence in the political process (for example priests can and sometimes do express expectations toward their congregations how they should vote), the Church is not integral part of the process anymore - so hereabout we have secular states - because back then as the First Estate (see: estates of the realm) they had secured places in the legislative bodies, and their highest ranking prelates were part of the governments (the various councils of the monarchs), but now this isn't the case.
