It's not submission they want, they want China to play by the rules, they are always going on about the rules based order. The nine dash line, the island build-ups, Taiwan, the bellicose stance, this all goes against that and for no purpose as well. They were doing well before Xi Jinping and if they had carried along in that manner they would actually would have been better off as when they actually were in a position to enforce their wants the rest of the world would not already be poised to rebuff this. But when make absurd claims over important sea lanes that are nowhere near you and that you have no claim to and then build military islands on them and create laws saying that any ships that enter the area can be removed with force, well then of course you are going to ruffle some feathers amongst those that actually have interests in the region.
