I'm not the guy you're replying to, but in my experience, they usually like the "asthetic" of philosophy or music, and not so much the subject itself.
For example, women who wear band shirts without knowing the band. I sure know I tried to talk to these women about music in the past and being very confused as to why they were never familiar with the bands.
I only say this about women because I've never seen a man do this.
