it's not an actual reset of your progress or ng+ you just have to repair some damaged gear. Using a junk ship and multi tool are recommended to avoid a headache. you can return to previous galaxies if you've built a base there. you can also get access to galaxies you've never been to via other people's bases at the anamoly teleporter. there's 256 sequential galaxies of either normal, harsh, empty or lush type with higher occurrence of certain planet types. The path to the last one was removed and it's only accessible through other players who are already there.

I might be remembering wrong but I think artemis quest is needed to get to the purple star systems with the new planet types and they're pretty cool
