Your glossing over teh demented old person throwing their weight around, which can be considerable because of reputation, being head of the family and still sometimes seeming sensible. If they are adamant they can still manage thier affairs then the system will bend over backwards to facilitate this. Often the estate and assets are depricated to the point of being garbage anyway. When you're needing an outside party to sort all this out then you've likely run your life into the ground and only garbage is left. WHo is going to fight for control of a junk yard that would cost thousands to clean up?
