That is a very poorly written article. They are referring to cruiser fat tire style e-bikes that are already illegal to ride but not illegal to sell. To be class one compliant (legal to ride on bike paths and roads) you need to have a 250watt motor, pedal assist only (no) throttle and a 25km speed limit. All the shimano and Bosch e-bikes I sell are compliant. On top of that there is also new battery certification standards that have come into New South Wales. I am fine with it all as all the kids on that Chinese fat bike shit have become a massive problem.
