They usually don't but they cause wounds on the surface where bacteria and viruses can get in, causing common cold symptoms. Partially this is why seasonal illnesses exist. In winter there is cold outside, and then we go the heated houses where the air is dry.
You might wanna raise air humidity in your home. In the rooms where necessary at least. There is a balance that needs to be achieved, because too humid environment might help mold to form on the walls and corners and whatnot.
