A long time ago we implemented fiat currency.

The problem with enforcing your moneys worth with the authority of your government is that those outside of your government's authority aren't required to see any value in your money.

So we instituted the petrodollar to ensure that internationally our money was backed by the oil purchased from the countries everyone else was getting their fossil fuels from.

That's something we had to use our military to defend for a long time until recently.

Now with the current global situation we are needing to go back to being self reliant upon the massive quantities of oil sitting under our feet that we just simply stopped using.

All the equipment knowhow and most importantly the infrastructure and communities that existed to drill that oil out of our own lands is long gone and will need to take decades to replace.

We don't have decades to replace it.

So we are pretty screwed.

But yeah, maybe one day we will have those towns again that are built around drilling up fossil fuels again.
