It is a confusing place to think of the world from their point of view. Essentially, the greatest males were used by past societies in sacrificial rituals to enhance male virility. The Emperor, or the Pharaoh, or the King, used human sacrifices to simply become truly who he was. Human life was not seen as important or significant.
The male that is sacrificed is remembered and revered as a perfect specimen. They were used for what they were, and then discarded, and remembered through history for what they provided, and sacrifice was seen as the ultimate destiny.
They were revered for not the things they did, but for what they provided the Emperor, King, Pharaoh, etc.
