Well, they didn't succeed, at least not here and on some other imageboards. 4chan and 8chan did implement spying, so they were fucked. Let's hope the same doesn't occur here. I guess reddit is still psuedoanonymous since I can register and post with TOR, but I would imagine datamining and identity linkage would be significantly easier on there than on here. Can't blame facebook since it is a site literally for connecting with people you know in real life rather than a discussion board, but the other websites like tumblr, twitter, google, youtube, etc. have no excuses for collecting your data.
They probably won't end anonymity online, at least, not with a major overhaul of the current internet infrastructure which is not viable at all and would cause a massive uproar everywhere. They are attempting to end anonymity slowly and quietly, little by little.
