IMO people who are still buying new are more than happy to spend money unironically and the price became a feature, the road bike market has given up the entry level segment (I think) partially to increase margins which counters the decrease in sales over the past years and partially because there are more than enough people that just buying expensive stuff anyways. I have 2 bike shop/bike industry people in my extended cycling friend group and they both confirmed that here road bikes >4k are outselling cheaper road bikes by numbers, bike leasing makes it possible. The way I see it

>in the USA everyone cycling appeals to is just fucking loaded and loves to show off wealth
>in Australia everyone is just fucking loaded period and loves showing off wealth
>in Asia in places where people have money (Singapore, the upper 10% of China for example) everyone is just fucking loaded and loves showing off wealth even more
cycling now caters to people with money and people with money love cycling because its an easy sport that's fun and encourages spending
