A sumo tournament (called basho) takes 15 days. They earn points with each win. The one with the most points wins the tournament championship (yusho).
Depending on how they accumulate points it could happen that it is already decided earlier. ie No way anyone can gather more point during the days left.
Sometimes top rikishis have the same amount of points by the end of the day, they decide with playoffs.
Fights go by ranking. First those in the lower ranks fight and as the day goes on the higher ranker rasslers gets their turn. The last bouts always fought by the yokozunas (not with each other, they only clash on the last couple of days, depending), since they are the final bosses the rikishis below them have to face.
Within a day, the later bouts tend to be more interesting since those osumosans are the more talented.
