I'm pretty sure 4chan has a limit but it's been a while. I know that lynxchan imageboards have a post limit where it auto locks the thread. I never set the limit so it may go on forever or it may lock at the high hundreds.
I've seen enough threads on the vichan and lynxchan software run until they start having trouble loading to not want to test it.
