It's why the original's remake just feels so off. It's a remake but also trying way too hard to keep everything the same. It's unlikely that that's what's holding you back, it's far more likely the lack in experience, and the employment gap.
But since both of those exist, you need literally everything else to outweigh them significantly. So the better we can make the answers to other questions, the more we can gloss over the shitty regrettable answers we can't avoid at all.

Sometimes the pre-screen goes well, or they had a small pool of candidates. It wouldn't be the first time, a long time ago I had one dude straight up laugh in my face, hand the resume back to me, and just say "No". It hurts, but oh well.
