Merry Christmas,

The fourth of December brings Gamma Brewery's Goofy, a brown ale of 4.5% VOL. We're back to top ones again.
Unlike pale ones, brown uses darker malts, bringing additional sugar and flavour. That the VOL is lower than that of a regular pilsner, is somewhat concerning.

The ale pours a very dark colour, leaving a beige head. At a first glance, you'd think this is a stout and not a brown ale. Browns should be quite a lot lighter.

The smell is roasty with a bit of chocolate and partially of hops. The smell makes it feel closer to a roasted IPA, than a brown ale, perhaps closer to a porter even which is a bottom-fermented beer however, not a top one

The taste is unlike the last few ones. It feels out of balance with separate flavours and little body. It has a deep bitterness with a slight roast and not much sweetness to speak of. This makes the tip of your tongue feel lonely quite quickly.

If Gamma wanted to, they could replace "Brown ale" with "Black IPA". Personally, the ale feels more like it belongs to the latter category due to the very bitter flavour and little sweetness. All it really lacks to fall into that category, would be a stronger hoppy smell.
I'm afraid to say, that I cannot recommend this one

Merry Christmas
