Mako had really no survivability to the point on Hardcore or higher (you got Hardcore by doing Veteran, you got Insanity by doing Hardcore) you should always leave the Mako for every single fight because you could take more damage than it and for the love of God, do not use it for cover in fights because if the Mako gets to 0% health while you're not in it, it won't blow up but if literally anything has damage over time on the Mako, the moment you get back in, it's game over.
