I'm going to define cult as an organization that uses religion as a cover for extortion, AND a religious movement that is otherwise attempting to push not it's value system, but esoteric practices that antithetical to healthy human psyche to achieve it's religious ends.
As in, a small group using outright psychological manipulation, and control, outright struggle sessions.
Small groups that promise you a better life, and peace, ease your mind and soul not through actual philosophy, prayer, and self reflection, but overt psychological torture.
