I figure that allowing the gyro (or what have you) to "release" it's energy in a certain direction may work. Imagine moving a cup of water in your hand until there is a small vortex, and then setting the cup down so that your no long supporting/absorbing the kinetic energy it has, thus imparting it on the surface that it's on.

The spinning disk part of it comes in with "over unity" and essentially being it's own self contained power house. If it worked to the degree that I hope then it wouldn't have any issues with power sources. I can think of a few ways to get the motor spinning that could actually be quite practical, especially to the speeds it needs.

At this point (for me at least) this is all theoretical, and any "real" work to be done on it is yet to come and will no doubt need lots of r&d.
A big thing imo that is highly important is 1. have it be self-powering and 2. have as few proprietary parts as needed (ie stuff that you can't build yourself)
In terms of magnets, could electro magnets work? Surely Neo mags would cost you out the ass for any functional amount, but afaik electro mags only require steel, electronics, and electricity?
