Israel wants one of two things, either they plan to remove the Palestinians and incorporate Gaza into Israel or they plan to dominate Gaza and turn it into a puppet so that if it does become independent it will not cause a threat to them.
Either way, to do this they need to control all of Gaza and remove Hamas. The way they are going about it is brutal and that's turning global opinion against them but ultimately words are just words. Israel will keep doing what it's doing unless somebody forces them to stop or they achieve what they aim for.
