Laser-plasma interaction
When a powerful laser pulse travels through the atmosphere, it can ionize the air, creating a plasma channel.
A second, long-pulse laser can then transfer energy to this pre-formed plasma channel, greatly increasing the energy density and enhancing the resulting radiation.
