It really was due to a backlog of memes already being established that new memes were no longer made for everything that appeared like in the first three seasons. Not sure I 100% agree, but that is a very good point. I think even things Derpi's restrictive spoiler rules also played a part as they kept Seaponies under it for quite awhile, enough for meme potential to die out.
