In that way, maybe they are a bit like bat ponies. Barely any appearances in any official media but just enough of a base to make it fun for designing things.
<Though, that being said, it seem like a lot of bat pony OCs are more conservative; I actually like this, as they aren't as often overdesigned like other OCs; though I am not sure I can fully hate maximalist OCs because we live in a world of dreary minimalism!
