>looking into how a character’s attributes that are generally presented as positive become negative when pushed to an extreme.
>it reads more like Twilight just having an OCD episode more than anything else
Very good point. For Twilight’s character overall having had a somewhat neurotic breakdowns based around the idea of her trying to take control (there maybe OCD, but to me this was also based on her leadership trait) versus Twilight in later seasons being more anxious and OCD. This arguably is the seed for it, even if I can write off most of it as her acting on her cutie mark/Princess fears ( Cough cough, Swarm of the Century and A Bird In The Hoof) were what we see is reasonably established if not taken a bit further.

>Also, Twilight knows that Spike has a crush on Rarity, couldn’t she just turn that into a ‘friendship problem’?
>...it puzzles me that this option didn’t occur to her.
I would debate the merits at having an issue here. I could see her easily forgetting that as a fact of life, or finding such a topic not a friendship problem. Then again, she did go to extreme lengths.

>So unless Celestia later, off-screen instructed Twilight to solve a friendship problem every week
This is the part where I could understand people's problems with in the sense of it getting a little meta.

>were it not for the fact that Twilight does not acknowledge the fact that maybe this isn’t a good thing to do, she hardly seems to be aware of it at all.
I think the question of the ponies mental maturity is relevant here.
