Glad you posted this, missed it last thread. Here is a cap of the 3 posts about elective anonymity.

I posted recently on information warfare, maybe last bread?, and was thinking about anonymity vs transparency, espec. forced transparency (like with phone call transcript).

Shapeshifting idea (last post) caught my eye. Shapeshifting can be motivated by many reasons. In the work we do, it is often necessary. We can reveal bits of ourselves, the not the whole self, for sake of security.

For example, at present if an anon is any kind of professional and the MSM finds out, you're toast. So necessary to remain anon--maybe have a user handle on voat or whatever--but you want to stay low.

If you play different roles in different places, it can be useful too.

Good also for eluding shills when necessary.

There is also of course an ethos around being "anon"--like it's morally superior or something--but i never saw it that way. Anons not better or worse than any other patriot, imo, just one way of working. disadvantage is difficulty of communicating. like when, say, a board suddenly vanishes and you can't locate frens. (just a theoretical example of course)

Any job that requires ongoing comms is going to need an id of some sort, which is why regular bakers for example tend to have id's of some sort while occasional bakers may not. Same goes for anons who have unique functions, e.g., ResignationAnon, MemeFarmer, GraphicsAnon, etc.
