As long as it's on the routable internet, DNS providers or edge routers can simply not route to the several giant satellite dishes worldwide that would be needed to keep in constant contact.

Plus, since there could be no satellite to satellite communication due to orbit requirements, everything would need to be double routed back to Earth and back up to every satellite. To keep this atomic would be insane, you're talking 12 second latency per post.

BTW -- you know fiber optic cable is already carrying light -- right?
