As far as I know (based on Fred's posts and screenshots attached) and some basic network probing (traceroute, whois), it's not them (Jim & Is It Wet Yet Inc.) who turned off the frontend server, it's Zare (the bandwidth provider) who cut off any services that 8kun is about to use. This includes a https://soon.8kun.net/ website that was recently launched and is down now. That's why it's good to hear there's a plan b, c and d in works (let's hope e, f, g, h... won't be needed).

It's kind of how the current internet works and all this cancel (moar liek cancer) culture nonsense. And Fred... is Fred (and a foreign citizen, while we're at it) but there are more people who don't want to see 8chan back and will work towards it. The example has been set.

In theory all that's needed is a provider which won't care about cancel culture reports (only about court orders), but we are dealing with networks. Networks depend on other networks and other networks are vulnerable to cancel culture reports as well (this happened before with Epik/Bitmitigate - and it probably wasn't Fred at that time - the CEO of Epik was surprised about how fast his upstream networks reacted). By the way it's not like networking is a free market, it's dominated by private natural monopolies. Who owns the wires owns the networks. Some wires are essential (eg. transatlantic wires) but there are only a few companies that own them. That's kind of about the picture of what Jim & Co. must deal with.

There's some another way and I will describe that in a next post.
