I think the reason BO locks the bread is that bred keeps going well past 751 if left alone. The setting is definitely "751 posts per bread" but doesn't seem to work. So BO must lock the bread as a result. Not a security feature, locking makes up for a bug in endchan.

(Not necessary is QR or QRB, where bred "stops by itself" at or soon after 751.)
