Not well-versed the neo-platonism of Julian the Apostate, but it's obvious that those who established our country were not quite conventional Christians (or conventional in any way, really). But as men of wisdom, they would respect the religious traditions of the majority, rather than trying to challenge traditional beliefs.
It took a long time for me to grasp just how unlikely a Revolution this really was--and how unusual the men and women involved would have to be in order to pull it off.
We never should have been able to win, almost lost many times. Was truly a miraculous victory; amazing to contemplate. And good to remember as we encounter our own challenges, now and in the future.
