almost, but no cigar. the mRNA does not BECOME the protein... it carries the information for a single step in the construction of the protein by the ribosome. mRNA is a chain of nucleotide bases. a protein is a chain of amino acids. each mRNA carries binds one specific amino acid and transfers it to the growing protein chain.
