I think the Java code it uses to handle the bread updates gets borked from time to time.
That's the one main performance diff from 8ch (rarely an issue) to 8kun (always an issue).
Fortunately, a simple refresh will reset it and it will work fine until it borks again.
Obviously, that doesn't apply to the bigger issues the site sometimes has.
