Founder of Spain’s far-right Vox party shot in face by motorbike gunman

Alejo Vidal-Quadras – who had also led the conservative Popular Party in Catalonia – was shot in Madrid hours after Spain’s acting prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, agreed a controversial deal between his Socialist Party and a Catalan separatist party that is set to give him another term in office.
Police said Mr Vidal-Quadras was in a serious condition in hospital, but he is believed to be stable.
