Decarbonising the Offshore Maritime Industry: In 2023, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced a new set of climate goals and pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% and increase the usage of zero or near-zero GHG emission technologies, fuels and/or energy sources to represent at least 5% of the energy used by international shipping, both by 2030. Across the world, stakeholders agreed that hitting this target would require not only a rapid shift away from traditional fuels and new regulatory measures but would also insist upon increased coordination and collaboration from finance, industry, government, and academia. In this discussion, we will address the financial, economic and regulatory barriers faced by leaders in the maritime industry when approaching the decarbonisation of their operations, as well as the resources and knowledge they need from investors to leverage to overcome these obstacles. - 2023 UN Climate Change Conference, United Arab Emirates (UNFCCC COP 28)
