So far, @USDA has approved three requests from states seeking to bar taxpayer-funded food stamps from being used to buy soda, junk food, and more.
Beginning 1/1/26:
NEBRASKA: SNAP can no longer be used to purchase soda or energy drinks.
INDIANA: SNAP can no longer be used to purchase soft drinks or candy.
IOWA: SNAP can no longer be used to purchase sweetened beverages, snacks, candy, or certain other taxable foods under Iowa law.
