Behind it was a highly classified space known as the SG3 Secure Room — operated in partnership with the NSA.
Inside, Klein learned, was a fiber optic splitter that duplicated all internet traffic passing through the building.
This allowed the NSA to monitor emails, web activity, and messages - not just international communications, but domestic ones too.
Room 641A had direct access to everything. It enabled surveillance on a massive scale, bypassing warrants and sweeping up data from millions of Americans.
Klein later revealed that similar "black rooms" likely exist in other AT&T hubs across the country.
