Donald Schneider @DonFSchneider - Also this is not a gotcha. Open inquiry. I have much faith in CBO as an institution and its estimates

One observation on the CBO dynamic analysis of OBBB I find unusual/inconsistent w/ prior work.
In its March 2025 dynamic analysis of TCJA extension CBO found $3.9tn increase in primary deficit and $676bn in interest costs. Now for OBBB, which is $2.4tn primary deficit impact, there's $1.067tn in interest costs. The policy change has much less deficit impact yet has a greater effect on debt service. This can't be explained by the mechanical effect of borrowing on debt service. It is explained by the interest rate sensitivity assumption in the dynamic analysis. But why would a policy that costs less have more of an impact on interest rates? Certainly not through the crowding out channel...

Doug TenNapel @DougTenNapel - It was a terrible argument by Tucker, but Tucker is largely an entertainer. He's not an elected official like Cruz. So Cruz and any other politician who wants the clicks from big social media talents need to realize that this kind of gotcha stuff can happen at any time.

The concept of nuance definitely seems to be out the window lately, doesn't it?
