Presidential Address on Troop Levels in Afghanistan
President Obama addressed the nation from the East Room of the White House on his plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan. While pledging an enduring partnership with Afghanistan and a commitment to the struggle against al-Qaeda and terrorism, he said the time had come to turn the country back to the Afghans. He also outlined his foreign policy agenda for the region, commenting on the U.S. commitment to democratic movements across the Arab world. He concluded with a call to solve economic problems at home in the U.S., and paid tribute to military personnel who served in Afghanistan.
