Look, I'm going to spend a decent amount of billable hours this week working on a case involving a small business owner who is fighting with the IRS over an interpretation on withholding calculations. That guy followed prior IRS guidance that the IRS is now oh yeah we changed our minds and no, there's no safe harbor because you messed up and trusted us.
This is costing him tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees and the best case scenario is that we can the penalties waived. This is a huge stress to him personally and it's causing him to consider selling out to the PE firm that's sniffing around because he just wants out of dealing with running a business entirely now.
