U.S. Marines @USMC - 75 years ago, the Korean War began as thousands of North Korean troops crossed the 38th Parallel, launching a brutal conflict that would draw in forces from around the world. Over the next three years, more than 150,000 #Marines answered the call, taking part in fierce combat against both North Korean and Chinese forces.
From the frozen terrain of Chosin Reservoir to the bold amphibious assault at Inchon, Marines fought with relentless courage. Their actions earned 42 Marines and 5 @USNavy Corpsmen the #MedalofHonor, adding to the legacy of the Corps.
The Korean War marked the first major conflict of the Cold War, uniting troops from 23 United Nations countries in defense of freedom on the Korean Peninsula. It also ushered in many innovations that are now commonplace on the battlefield such as troop helicopters employment to body armor.
We remember their sacrifice.
