Aaron Reitz @aaron_reitz - The central Texas floods highlight a stark juxtaposition often seen only in war, tragedy, or disaster: tremendous grief, sadness, and death, but with rays of hope, teamwork, and encouragement.
On the latter, I want to give special shout-out to the @Unitedcajunnavy, @TDStormRecovery, and @TAMU . I spent a day this week with the Cajun Navy, @BTrascher, @RepClayHiggins, and Team Dominator extracting a sunken truck that had gotten stuck upside down in the running mud and debris. Fortunately, we found no one inside. And then these volunteer student Aggies with Aggie Bonfire who came and cleared debris and searched for people using chainsaws, axes, and machetes.
I’m extremely proud of my alma mater, Texas A&M. They’ve been all over the Hill Country doing outstanding work with A&M Task Forces 1 and 3 (swift water rescue boats), A&M Forest Service (saw crews), and A&M AgriLife Extension Service (ag and livestock needs).
