NWS Tsunami Alerts NWS_NTWC - We can't do it without them. Thank you, Elena, and all tsunami researchers, helping our coastal communities become @NWS Tsunami Ready!

Alaska Earthquake Center @AKearthquake
Time for #FieldworkFriday! With two tsunami warnings in the past two weeks, today we look at how we bring our tsunami research and education to coastal communities around Alaska. Elena Troshina, one of our tsunami researchers, recently visited Yakutat and Cordova, along with some of our partners from the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Giving public presentations, working with local decision makers to help create evacuation areas, and ground-truthing tsunami hazard models are just a few of the tasks on these trips.
Elena also creates tsunami model graphics, like these two estimating tsunami wave heights across the Pacific and in the Aleutian Islands from the recent magnitude 8.8 earthquake near Kamchatka, Russia. In the Aleutian Islands graphic, note how narrower bays and inlets concentrated the tsunami, creating higher water levels. This is how we help support resilience in Alaska's communities!

Office of Nuclear Energy | US Department of Energy @GovNuclear - We need MORE power, not less, and nuclear can do that with a smaller land footprint.

Oilfield Rando @Oilfield_Rando - There really was a point where libs decided that it was the government’s job to keep them from ever feeling bad about themselves, ever.
