U.S. Naval Institute @NavalInstitute - #OTD in 1945 (5 Aug 19:15 ET, 6 Aug 8:15 JST), the USAAF B-29 Superfortress 'Enola Gay' dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Among the 140,000 Japanese killed were several American PoWs including Navy Airman Normand Brissette. He survived the blast but died 2 weeks later. Details of his fate were classified until the 1970s.
