Simultaneously, Governor Greg Abbott has escalated the crisis, deploying FBI Director Kash Patel’s agents to hunt 51 Democratic lawmakers who fled to Illinois with JB Pritzker’s cash to thwart GOP redistricting. After an 85-6 House vote on August 4, 2025, civil warrants are out, with felony bribery charges under Texas Penal Code § 36.02 looming.
