A suspicious package triggered a large emergency response in Times Square Monday morning, prompting the evacuation of the busy 42nd Street–Times Square subway station and street closures around 43rd Street and 7th Avenue.
The NYPD bomb squad responded to the scene after a cylinder-shaped device was found near the NYPD substation at approximately 10:30 a.m., according to law enforcement sources. Officers set up a perimeter spanning several blocks, and multiple units including COBRA and SRG teams were called in for crowd control.
Service at the subway hub—which serves the N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, 3, A, C, and E lines—was temporarily suspended as a precaution.
Police were seen searching for a man reportedly spotted leaving the package.
