In just one week:
• 3 people shot, one fatally today
• Innocent Amazon driver shot on Tremont Ave
• 2 killed, 4 wounded in one night
• 4 teenagers gunned down in a mass shooting
• A 17-year-old girl fighting for her life
…and many more horrific shooting incidents.
These shootings are overwhelmingly gang-related. Street crews have been firing into crowds without regard for who is hit. Sixteen-year-old Evette Jeffrey, killed outside her own school this May, was one of many innocent victims.
Mayor Adams calls it “an anomaly.” A mass shooting every week is not an anomaly.
The NYPD is critically understaffed. Since 2020, 14,500 officers have left, with 300 leaving every month.
Detectives face caseloads averaging 500 cases per year compared to 250 two decades ago. The Gun-Violence Suppression Division has only two units covering all five boroughs.
Today, I was the ONLY candidate to call for urgent action from the state and federal government to help protect Bronx families and restore safety.
