U.S. Naval Institute @NavalInstitute - In the 1950s, surplus PBY Catalinas were being converted into "aerial luxury yachts" complete with kitchens and fully-stocked bars. Marketed as the "Landseaire" with a price tag of $265,000, the plane's waist blister window was touted as being perfect for sightseeing. One Landseaire was heavily damaged on a beach in Saudi Arabia when it was attacked by Bedouin tribesmen who mistook the blue and white plane for an Israeli transport carrying commandos.
