matt thornton @aliveness_ape - This is a point I don’t think progressives have realized yet. And there’s no coming back from it.
Many normal people, a lot of whom were unfamiliar with Kirk’s work, have now looked into it. They search for the “hate,” the vitriol everyone on the left claims this “fascist” had. Instead, what they find is a well spoken, Christian conservative that espouses and believes the same thing that about half this country believes. While I myself am a secular atheist, many of my own friends, that I love, hold much the same views as Kirk—as do most conservative Catholics. They’re not fringe.
And then they see what is not a small portion of the left, not bots or anonymous Antifa weirdos, but professional people posting in their own names, teachers, professors, doctors, bureaucrats literally gloating over the fact that a man was shot in the neck in front of his two little children, for the crime of talking.
Those kind of nasty messages, real hate, are ubiquitous on BlueSky. In fact BlueSky disabled the search feature to try and mask it. And they, the normal people, are left with one conclusion. If these people would celebrate Kirk being slaughtered in front of his little children, they’d celebrate me being murdered in front of my children as well.
I don’t think progressives have realized this. I see them shocked when they lose their jobs after celebrating a man’s murder. They’re clearly in their own, well insulated information silos. They thought they were signaling something “cool.” The reality that about half the country now views progressives as the kind of people who’d celebrate if they themselves were murdered, just hasn’t registered. And I think it’s too late to change that.
While I don’t think all these people signaling their hatred for Kirk meet the DSM diagnosis of a sociopath (there’s just too many of them), I do think their ideology has lead them to have sociopathic tendencies, and behavior. And that mask is fully off now.
It’s a sad day for our nation.

"Charlie Kirk was mainstream. He had views that are held by millions, including more than half the country in the last election. So if you're saying this is justified, what you're actually saying is half the country, there's some justification to commit violence against them."

Megyn Kelly @megynkelly - I’m not sure who needs to hear this but Jimmy Kimmel got on the air and falsely stated as a fact that Charlie Kirk’s killer was MAGA, smearing an entire movement and Trump in particular with a vile disgusting lie - and at a time when the threat against those on the right is at an all-time high.
This was *after* we knew from the UT gov that the killer had been indoctrinated into LEFT-wing ideology, *after* we’d seen the shooter’s bullet casings reflecting furry/trans memes, calling Charlie a fascist and w/anti-fascist lyrics. It was *after* we had learned the shooter was living with his trans-furry boyfriend and believed Charlie Kirk was “full of hate.” *After* we learned that the shooter was not registered GOP, but “unaffiliated.” *After* we saw him pull the trigger just as Charlie discussed trans killers. There was zero - ZERO - evidence the shooter was MAGA, had ever been MAGA, or was influenced by MAGA in any way.
