http://Portland.gov/Mayors-UnitedOne after another, the mayors, five of them veterans, stepped up to the podium to denounce the federal order as unnecessary, unwelcome, and unconstitutional.
The statements from the mayors echoed the objections of other local leaders who have called on President Trump to countermand his order, including U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, Portland City Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney, Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson, Portland City Councilors and Multnomah County Commissioners.
Mayor Wilson thanked the mayors for their support. "I am deeply grateful to join my fellow mayors today, and humbled by their commitment to finding common purpose in these uncertain times. By joining together, we can accomplish far more, and protect our community far better, than we ever could alone."

. Dialogue Liaison Officers were on hand to communicate with participants and answer questions. Officers on motorcycles and bicycles assisted with traffic management to ensure safety for all. There were no reports of injuries and no arrests were made.
Meanwhile, there was a gathering outside the ICE building in South Portland that at times moved into the street. At one point, a vehicle tried to move through the crowd and was surrounded. Dialogue Liaison Officers moved in to help mediate the situation, and the driver was able to back out and safely depart in a different direction.
Over the next few hours, officers observed some physical confrontations between participants with opposing viewpoints. Two arrests were made after officers developed probable cause. No force was used by Portland Police members during these events. Officers took an additional report of a property crime, and are investigating that case.
As a reminder, Portland Police does not engage in immigration enforcement as outlined in PPB Directive 810.10, but is still responsible for maintaining public safety and enforcing state laws.
