Republicans currently control all branches of government and are responsible for this shutdown. For weeks, President Trump has refused to negotiate a bipartisan funding bill, and Republicans are not even here in Washington, D.C. to vote.
I won't sign a blank check for Trump's authoritarian agenda. This is a lawless administration that is wreaking havoc on our communities. They want to shut down the government to continue breaking the law and operating without oversight.
It's shameful that the president called protecting the health care of the American people "unserious and ridiculous" demands. I refuse to rubber stamp another partisan Republican funding bill while they kick 17 million Americans off their health care. I will continue fighting to meet the needs of the people I represent by reversing the extreme Medicaid cuts, protecting Medicare, and renewing the Affordable Care Act tax credits.
