He laid down everything in simple terms. No buzzword bingo. No Ivy League wordsmithing. It was a speech styled in the finest traditions of someone raised professionally at Fort Benning, GA, the home of the Infanty. I recognized it immediately.
He empowered the most senior leaders of the military, giving them the tools to lead without the burdens that have shackled us for a generation.
He even gave them a respectful out. Offering resignation in lieu of continuing in disagreement. Time will tell if they know what to do with such freedom of action.
For everyone crying that he was going to fire them, start martial law, or have them pledge a loyalty oath, what now? You have no idea what to say, do you?
He gave a profound wakeup call. Explaining the standard in a way only an Infantryman can: task, conditions, and standards shrouded in fire and ice. Leaving zero room for doubt on expectations.
So I ask the critics: what now? Because from my foxhole, the only people I see upset are advocates of DEI. Those who “Didn’t Earn It.”
Are you mad a former Major is SECWAR? Then you’ve confused pedigree with purpose.
For the rest of you out there:
The age of entitlements is over. The age of earned excellence is now upon us.
Now get on board, or do us all a favor and get the hell out of the way.
